A Little Weekend Reading

Twenty-eight architecture firms responded to the library's Request For Qualifications for the central building project by the deadline on March 29. Members of the building committee, trustees and library director will be reading and evaluating these reports carefully over the next week or so.

The committee will narrow the choices to the top three or four, and interviews will take place at the library board meeting on April 23. This meeting has an early start time of 6:30 p.m.

A copy of each proposal is available at the reference desk at all three libraries for the public to peruse. The public is welcome to send comments to the library board, as well as attend the board and building committee meetings.

Charrette Designs on Display

Designs submitted to the charrette sponsored by Archinect were presented to the library board at the February 26 meeting by two young architects. The design boards were displayed at the Ewald Branch on Thursday evening, March 1, and are currently on display on the windows of the main reading room at the Central Library. Participants promote saving the 1953 building designed by Marcel Breuer, and the designs represent a wide selection of approaches to add to the building while maintaining the original structure.
